Ra­mon Sampe­dro is a quad­ri­plegic who has been ly­ing in his bed for nearly 30 years and now he wants to die. He hires a lawyer and be­gins his cam­paign in the courts. The lawyer (Be­len Rueda) is emo­tion­ally un­sup­port­ive of Sampe­dro’s wish at first, but her views change as her re­la­tion­ship be­comes per­sonal. Also, a young sin­gle mother sees the paral­ysed poet as her per­fect man. The woman who really loves him, Sampe­dro an­nounces, will help him die. There are mo­ments of beauty in this film – based on the true story – and it will make you ap­pre­ci­ate your own life and good health. ★★★✩
