RENO 911! MIAMI (2007) ELEVEN, 8.30PM, M, COMEDY

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

It’s driven by infantile humour, fat women wearing thongs (not the footwear) and naked breasts, but Reno911! Miami is a cut above most other juvenile comedies. Not much, mind you, but enough to give you a few good chuckles. Fans of the TV show on which this is based will already know what to expect, but for the uninitiated it’s a mockumentary that lampoons the real-life series Cops. It follows the exploits of a ragtag bunch of officers at the Reno sheriff’s office led by the gay, moustachioed Lt Jim Dangle as they head to Miami for a police convention. When the convention centre is locked down by a biological weapons attack, the Reno squad become the only trained police on the streets of Miami and must deal with everyday problems, while tracking down the terrorists responsible for the attack. There’s crude humour and a liberal dose of gratuitous nudity, but it is also laugh-out-loud funny in parts if you’re a fan of the ridiculous. It’s kind of like Police Academy meets Dodgeball. ★★★
