The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Nicole Kidman and George Clooney are a mismatched couple – she’s a high-ranking Washington nuclear scientist and he’s a boots ’n’ all military man – who find themselves teamed to save the world. It takes quite a while to discover the real mission – an attempt by a grieving and sensitive Bosnian music teacher to blow up much of Manhattan – and there’s the inevitable climax, a countdown to the ticking bomb as the still-bickering couple fuss over which wires to cut before it detonates. While there are some well-staged action scenes in this obviously expensive international production filmed in too-sombre colours (perhaps to show they’re trying to be serious about the subject matter), it’s stuff we’ve been watching for years since the end of World War II and Cold War tensions put a chill into international diplomacy. ★★
