CASA DE MI PADRE

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Not all Will Ferrell flicks are funny. Even the lovable Anchorman can make a dud as this Spanish subtitled spoof of the soapy telenovelas and bad westerns proves. Ferrell plays the not-so-bright son of a successful Mexican rancher whose favourite son returns to take over and to take on an American drug cartel moving into the area. It seems strange at first to be reading subtitles, but this wasn’t the movie’s downfall. For the first few minutes, Ferrell speaking Spanish is amusing, as is the first look at the cheap sets and the deliberately bad continuity. But no matter how good Ferrell is to look at, he needs a good script and this just isn’t funny. ★✩ Extras: Making of CasademiPadre featurette, Deleted scenes, Fight for Love music video, three fake TV ads, Pedro Armendariz interview, and theatrical trailer. ★✩
