GET TO KNOW THE VOICE’S NEW JUDGE, RICKY MARTIN:
MARTIN began singing at age six using wooden
spoons as pretend microphones. He often interpreted songs by Puerto Rican boy band Menudo as well as Led Zeppelin, Journey, and REO Speedwagon. At
age 13, he joined Menudo and stayed until he was 17, recording 11
albums with them.
AS WELL as being an accomplished singer, Martin is also a successful actor. He has starred in film, TV and on stage in productions including General Hospital, Glee and Les Miserables. His most recent project was starring as Che in the Broadway revival Evita. He wrapped up his role before moving to Australia for The Voice.
WHILE Martin was largely an unknown globally until 1999 when he released his hit song
the performer was huge on the Latin music scene. He had recorded four solo albums and even received a Grammy award for best Latin
THE singer runs a charity organisation called the Ricky Martin Foundation, which works to stop the exploitation of children and child trafficking. He started the not-for-profit after witnessing the
horrors of human trafficking first hand when he was in India in 2002. He rescued three girls living
on the streets.
