MARTIN be­gan singing at age six us­ing wooden

spoons as pre­tend mi­cro­phones. He of­ten in­ter­preted songs by Puerto Ri­can boy band Menudo as well as Led Zep­pelin, Journey, and REO Speed­wagon. At

age 13, he joined Menudo and stayed un­til he was 17, record­ing 11

al­bums with them.

AS WELL as be­ing an ac­com­plished singer, Martin is also a suc­cess­ful ac­tor. He has starred in film, TV and on stage in pro­duc­tions in­clud­ing Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal, Glee and Les Mis­er­ables. His most re­cent project was star­ring as Che in the Broad­way re­vival Evita. He wrapped up his role be­fore mov­ing to Aus­tralia for The Voice.

WHILE Martin was largely an un­known glob­ally un­til 1999 when he re­leased his hit song

the per­former was huge on the Latin mu­sic scene. He had recorded four solo al­bums and even re­ceived a Grammy award for best Latin

pop al­bum.

THE singer runs a char­ity or­gan­i­sa­tion called the Ricky Martin Foun­da­tion, which works to stop the ex­ploita­tion of chil­dren and child trafficking. He started the not-for-profit af­ter wit­ness­ing the

hor­rors of hu­man trafficking first hand when he was in In­dia in 2002. He res­cued three girls liv­ing

on the streets.
