WON’T BACK DOWN

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

There is a reason this film went straight to DVD. It follows frustrated mother Jamie (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and fed-up teacher Nona (Viola Davis) as they take on bureaucracy, parents and teachers to transform their failing inner-city school and change the schooling system for the better. While their mission is well-intended, the story drags on far longer than it should with a predictable ending. Also, Jamie’s pushy ways and abrupt manner means she’s just not that likable as a lead character, even if she is only trying to stop her dyslexic daughter from falling through the cracks of a failed system. ★★ Extras: Deleted scenes, A Tribute to Teachers, The Importance of Education, Audio commentary with Director Daniel Barnz and theatrical trailer. ★★
