VANILLA SKY (2001) ONE, 8.30PM, M, DRAMA

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

A provocative puzzle piece, Vanilla Sky is a courageous but miscued undertaking by Cameron Crowe ( Almost Famous). Tom Cruise stars as a womanising Manhattan media hotshot who meets “the one” (Penélope Cruz), but their single morning of bliss is shattered by an unhinged ex-lover (Cameron Diaz). Involving but highly flawed, this re-imagining of Spanish director Alejandro Amenábar’s AbreslosOjos is amazing to look at (John Toll’s cinematography revitalises the majesty of New York) and is filled with memorable music cues (by Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, R.E.M., The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, The Chemical Brothers). ★★★

Break in reality: Penelope Cruz and Tom Cruise in VanillaSky.
