CRAIG McLACHLAN JOINS THE CAST OF NINE’S QUIRKY FAMILY DRAMA
Monday, 8.30pm, Nine
IT’S hard to believe anyone would take the place of Gary Sweet as the favourite of Julia Morris on the House Husbands set.
But it seems her new co-star Craig McLachlan has managed to replace the man the comedian-turned-actor named as one of the best on-screen kissers she has ever worked with.
‘‘He was unbelievably gorgeous on every level to work with. I think the crew might have been even more in love with him than I was. Saying he was joy on wheels doesn’t even begin to cover it.’’
However Morris, 44, who plays Gemma Horne in the show, is quick to point out she has still kept a soft spot for Sweet, who plays her onscreen husband.
‘‘He has just come back more delicious than ever our Gary and he is in vintage form.
‘‘Whenever I can slip in a little kiss on the lips, I do. You aren’t allowed to in your own private time when you are married so when you can get away with it under the acting umbrella I’m like: ‘Lets just kiss every day’.’’
However she says for all her love of kissing Sweet, working with McLachlan, 47, was like having a new boyfriend, not only for her but for everyone.
‘‘There was an explosion of great humour that came on to the set every day, and it was like being 16 and seeing a new boyfriend.
‘‘Everyone was so excited when he was there he injects this insane electricity into the room.’’
McLachlan, appears in the latest series of House Husbands as Damo, who is suddenly thrown back in to childhood bestie Gemma’s life after they discover their parents have a secret to hide.
Morris says of their relationship on screen: ‘‘Any sort of truth that we thought we knew about our childhood is really blown apart, and he is the only other person who really knows how my character is feeling.
