MONA LISA SMILE (2003) GEM, 8.40PM, PG, DRAMA

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Women in 1950s America were never to question their housewife status quo. Enter Julia Roberts, a feminist art history teacher at one of the top girls’ colleges in the country, armed with a knowledge of Jackson Pollock paintings and a desire to liberate the minds of her prissy pupils. As expected, she runs into some resistance, principally from snob Kirsten Dunst. With talented co-stars Julia Stiles, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ginnifer Goodwin, it’s a shame the trite script lacks the energy and passion of a Pollock painting. Also stars Dominic West and Marcia Gay Harden. ★★★
