An­thony An­drews, Deb­o­rah Raf­fin, Pamela Bell­wood, Nancy Marc­hand, Josef Som­mer. ★★★ Shya­malan ( TheSix­thSense) pokes and probes our worst fears via stun­ning cam­era an­gles and chill­ing sound de­sign. Played se­ri­ous, even dead­pan, the act­ing is mo­men­tous, with Mel Gib­son and Joaquin Phoenix ex­cep­tional out front. Also stars Rory Culkin and Abi­gail Bres­lin. ★★★★ a leather­clad, gun-tot­ing, per­ox­ide bomb­shell on one ice skate lec­ture a fag-puff­ing mi­nor and cause him to wet his pants with fear, ut­ter­ing, “Life is pain. Get used to it.” Ace. Also stars Pa­trick Malahide, Yvonne Zima and Craig Bierko. ★★★★ of at least a dozen riv­et­ing set pieces. Also stars Scott Glenn and Ted Levine. ★★★★★ late Les­lie Nielsen star in this lame send-up of su­per­hero films, from Bat­manBe­gins to Fan­tas­ticFour, which clearly takes its comedic clues from MAD mag­a­zine. Also stars Sara Pax­ton and Christopher McDon­ald. ★★
