ADAM McDonald spends his spare time looking through other people’s trash hoping to find his treasure. The star of Foxtel’s Aussie Pickers (A&E, Thursday, 7.30pm) has a particular interest in industrial antiques (or mantiques as he likes to call them). The former bricklayer and hip-hop MC took time to share a few of his favourite things. ENTERTAINMENT Movie: Break Dance 2 Electric Boogaloo. Golden era in music. Book: Something about Kevin. Time is precious so this is OUR time. Place to go to relax: TAB. Nobody chats about anything except the last or next race to jump. Hobby: Music. I still fool around with beats and mics. Sport to follow or play: Rugby league. I coach Newtown Jets (under 6s) and love it! Dinner conversation topics: Music, music and music. People tend to be quite passionate about what they listen to. HOME. Room in your house: Kitchen. The epicentre of daily life. Place to hide from everyone: Bathroom. The only place where people leave you alone – and for good reason. Art piece: I own a few works by Fred Cress. I love the loose form figures he does. Item you can’t live without: My 1979 Kenwood amplifier. So warm and clear and very loud. Luxury product: Conditioner. I don’t have much hair but when it’s conditioned, it just feels nice. FOOD Meal of all time: Lamb. Cooked any way. Greek style is king at the moment. Dish to cook: Pasta. You need few ingredients to make a ripping dish. Family recipe: Ki-Si-Ming. Mum would throw all sorts of things into a pot. Add curry powder and rice, gave it a name and a dish was born. Even better on toast the next day after the night before. Ingredient: Garlic and cayenne pepper. I have it in everything. Guilty pleasure: Arnott’s Mint Slice biscuits and an ice cold glass of milk. Now that’s fine dining. Bar: White Cockatoo Hotel in Petersham, Sydney. Relaxed, friendly and they serve the best schnitzels. Restaurant: Swiss Eiger in Leichhardt (Sydney). Go there, you will understand why. Cafe: Big Brekky – also in Sydney’s Petersham. Best wait staff in town. STYLE Style icon: I don’t follow trends. I’m just me. Practical and comfortable, with a dash of street. Fashion designer: No one springs to mind. Piece of clothing: AIRMAX sneakers. I collect them and wear them morning, noon and night.
