THE AVIATOR (2004) GEM, 8.40PM, M, BIOGRAPHICAL

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

In presenting the tumultuous glory years of Texan airline tycoon and dashing Hollywood playboy Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio), Martin Scorsese sets the controls for excitement, perhaps overshooting the runway a tad. Guided by a typically industrious screenplay by John Logan ( Gladiator), the movie swoops across the more glamorous period of the thrillseeking aviator’s life, from the glittering 1920s to the more decadent 1940s. DiCaprio is convincing in his depiction of Hughes as a vibrant, complex, mythical character, and he is well complemented by an Oscar-winning Cate Blanchett (above with DiCaprio) as Katharine Hepburn. ★★★✩
