BRÜNO (2009) 7MATE, 10.30PM, MA15+, COMEDY

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

The inimitable imitator, satirist and agitator Sacha Baron Cohen followed his 2006 hit Borat with more of the same prejudice-baiting humour in this merciless mockumentary. The wide-eyed foreigner with a skewed take on American culture this time is the über-fabulous, funky fashionista Brüno, determined to become “the biggest Austrian superstar since Hitler”. Obviously, nothing is sacred to Baron Cohen as he shocks the unwitting victims of his comedy and, as with Borat, the biggest target is conservative middle America. The jokes can run a little thin, but this sharp, snappy romp certainly doesn’t outstay its welcome. ★★★
