EVENT HORIZON (1997) ONE, 9.30PM, AV15+, SCI-FI

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

In 2047, astronauts leave Earth to salvage an AWOL vessel that has floated in the cosmos without contact for several years. Upon arrival, the mission’s participants (led by Laurence Fishburne) encounter unexplained developments. Starting with gripping impact via some truly startling scares (not since Aliens did space looked so terrifying) and a score that the devil might consider for elevator music, EventHorizon proceeds to plumb the dark recesses of scripting no-nos, resulting in sci-fi codswallop. Ultimately, Sam Neill is painful as the villain and a botched resolution renders Paul Anderson’s horror-inthe-stars scare-fest only half

interesting. ★★★

Fun on the farm: Christine Cavanaugh lends her voice to Babe.
