MONSTER-IN-LAW (2005) GEM, 8.30PM, M, COMEDY

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Funny title, right? If you don’t count the supporting role of Wanda Sykes, then that’s about where the laughs begin and end for this hideous romantic comedy from Australian director Robert Luketic ( Legally Blonde). It’s an anatomically incorrect assemblage of weak romance, roll-your-eyes slapstick and desperate dialogue. Jennifer Lopez plays an unluckyin-love, free-spirited dog walker who bats her eyelids at a spunky doctor (Michael Vartan) and winds up in a vicious war with his deranged, elitist mother (Jane Fonda, above) for his hand in marriage. After 15 years away from the business, Fonda obviously lost her talent for sniffing out a good script. ★★
