VERA (SERIES TWO)

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Only four episodes make up the second series of this police drama and that’s plenty. The crimes are cleverly constructed and are exceptionally harrowing. But it isn’t the crimes themselves but the star of the show DCI Vera Stanhope (played by Brenda Blethyn) that makes this better in small doses. Vera is so emotionally detached as to be exceptionally irritating and she has an annoying habit of calling victims, suspects and colleagues alike “pet” in a particularly patronising tone. On the plus side her “pet” offsider, detective Joe Ashworth (played by the handsome David Leon), is easy on the eye. ★★★ Extras: None
