She rose to fame as a contestant on hit series MasterChef, now Queensland cook Marion Grasby is tantalising tastebuds with her own show, Marion’s Thailand, on Foxtel’s LifeStyle FOOD. We caught up with the kitchen queen to find out about her favourite things. ENTERTAINMENT Movie: Lost In Translation never fails to make me laugh and it so eloquently captures the feel of Tokyo. I love Bill Murray! Book: My copy of Charmaine Solomon’s The Complete Asian Cookbook is my go-to resource. TV show: I’m addicted to Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. Band or singer: Florence and the Machine. Album: She Will Have Her Way – The Songs of Tim & Neil Finn. Karaoke song: I am so bad at karaoke. I never sing. Gadget: My new iPad mini. LIFESTYLE Holiday spot: Nai Yang Beach in Phuket, Thailand. Beautiful blue water, beachside shack restaurants and a smattering of hotels. Thing to do on the weekend: Cook and eat. I’m living in Bangkok at the moment so I’m usually out finding new street food carts or shopping at wet markets. Place to go to relax: My couch at home, with a good cookbook to read. Hobby: Cooking, eating and more cooking. I am a serious food nerd. Sport to follow or play: My secret love is cricket. I’m looking forward to the Ashes this year. Dinner conversation topics: New restaurants, places to travel and things to eat. HOME Room in your house: My study. I have a bookshelf of cookbooks that spans an entire wall. Place to hide: My bedroom. Art piece: A beautiful indigenous art piece my fiance Tim bought for me. Item you can’t live without: The mortar and pestle my mum gave me when I first moved out of home. It always makes me think of her. Luxury product: My Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum to keep those wrinkles at bay! FOOD Meal of all time: Sixpenny in Stanmore, Sydney. Their degustation menu is inspired by their kitchen garden and so exquisitely executed. And the wine list is the most interesting I’ve seen in a long while. Dish to cook: Any sort of curry. Family recipe: Thai green curry. Guilty pleasure: I can’t go past a buttery, cheese toasted sandwich. Bar: Above Eleven at The Fraser Suites Hotel in Bangkok. It’s a rooftop bar with awesome cocktails. Restaurant: I’m addicted to the squid ink wagyu burgers from The Smith in Bangkok. Cafe: Buzz Bistro in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley (pictured) is where I take my family for breakfast when I’m back for visits. I always order their savoury mince with poached egg. STYLE Style icon: My friend and fashion blogger extraordinaire Geneva Vanderzeil (apairandasparediy.com) is the most stylish person I know! Fashion designer: Ginger & Smart. Piece of clothing: My hot pink Ginger & Smart dress I wore for my 30th birthday party last year. Shop: Zara in the Emporium Shopping Centre in Bangkok is one of the few places that has clothes that fit me. Thai women are generally so much smaller than me. Artist: I don’t have a favourite artist.
