She rose to fame as a con­tes­tant on hit se­ries MasterChef, now Queens­land cook Marion Grasby is tan­ta­lis­ing taste­buds with her own show, Marion’s Thai­land, on Fox­tel’s Life­Style FOOD. We caught up with the kitchen queen to find out about her favourite things. EN­TER­TAIN­MENT Movie: Lost In Trans­la­tion never fails to make me laugh and it so elo­quently cap­tures the feel of Tokyo. I love Bill Mur­ray! Book: My copy of Char­maine Solomon’s The Com­plete Asian Cook­book is my go-to re­source. TV show: I’m ad­dicted to Ram­say’s Kitchen Night­mares. Band or singer: Florence and the Ma­chine. Al­bum: She Will Have Her Way – The Songs of Tim & Neil Finn. Karaoke song: I am so bad at karaoke. I never sing. Gadget: My new iPad mini. LIFE­STYLE Hol­i­day spot: Nai Yang Beach in Phuket, Thai­land. Beau­ti­ful blue wa­ter, beach­side shack restau­rants and a smat­ter­ing of ho­tels. Thing to do on the week­end: Cook and eat. I’m liv­ing in Bangkok at the mo­ment so I’m usu­ally out find­ing new street food carts or shop­ping at wet mar­kets. Place to go to re­lax: My couch at home, with a good cook­book to read. Hobby: Cook­ing, eat­ing and more cook­ing. I am a se­ri­ous food nerd. Sport to fol­low or play: My se­cret love is cricket. I’m look­ing for­ward to the Ashes this year. Din­ner con­ver­sa­tion top­ics: New restau­rants, places to travel and things to eat. HOME Room in your house: My study. I have a book­shelf of cook­books that spans an en­tire wall. Place to hide: My bed­room. Art piece: A beau­ti­ful in­dige­nous art piece my fi­ance Tim bought for me. Item you can’t live with­out: The mor­tar and pes­tle my mum gave me when I first moved out of home. It al­ways makes me think of her. Lux­ury prod­uct: My Es­tee Lauder Ad­vanced Night Re­pair serum to keep those wrin­kles at bay! FOOD Meal of all time: Six­penny in Stan­more, Syd­ney. Their de­gus­ta­tion menu is in­spired by their kitchen gar­den and so exquisitely ex­e­cuted. And the wine list is the most in­ter­est­ing I’ve seen in a long while. Dish to cook: Any sort of curry. Fam­ily recipe: Thai green curry. Guilty plea­sure: I can’t go past a but­tery, cheese toasted sand­wich. Bar: Above Eleven at The Fraser Suites Ho­tel in Bangkok. It’s a rooftop bar with awe­some cock­tails. Restau­rant: I’m ad­dicted to the squid ink wagyu burg­ers from The Smith in Bangkok. Cafe: Buzz Bistro in Bris­bane’s For­ti­tude Val­ley (pic­tured) is where I take my fam­ily for break­fast when I’m back for vis­its. I al­ways or­der their savoury mince with poached egg. STYLE Style icon: My friend and fash­ion blog­ger ex­traor­di­naire Geneva Van­derzeil (apairan­das­parediy.com) is the most stylish per­son I know! Fash­ion de­signer: Ginger & Smart. Piece of cloth­ing: My hot pink Ginger & Smart dress I wore for my 30th birth­day party last year. Shop: Zara in the Emporium Shop­ping Cen­tre in Bangkok is one of the few places that has clothes that fit me. Thai women are gen­er­ally so much smaller than me. Artist: I don’t have a favourite artist.
