Film critic, TV presenter, radio host, author and all-round media mischief maker Marc Fennell has joined SBS2’s news and current affairs program, The Feed, as the principal host. TV Guide caught up with him to find out about his favourite things. ENTERTAINMENT Movie: I watch Donnie Darko annually because every time I see it I think it means something else. Book: The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. When I die I’d like my headstone to read ‘‘Dead for Tax Purposes Only’’. TV show: Arrested Development, with Cop Rock as a close second. Band or singer: French electronic outfit M83 is the band I play whenever I have the apartment to myself and neighbours to annoy. Album: Miike Snow by Miike Snow. It’s as catchy as the additional letter ‘‘i’’ is superfluous. Karaoke song: Wonderwall by Oasis. Gadget: Jawbone Up, a pedometer on my wrist that syncs with an iPhone to tell me how much running around I do in a day and just how little sleep I’m receiving. LIFESTYLE Holiday spot: In Australia, Byron Bay. Overseas, Cinque Terra in Italy. Thing to do on the weekend: Work through all the TV I missed because I’m on air. Place to go to relax: Weird, but I find the gym incredibly relaxing. Hobby: My wife Madeleine and I do a thing called ‘‘Stunt Cooking’’ where I make mains, she makes dessert and then we let Facebook decide who made the better looking meals. Sport to follow or play: What? Stunt Cooking wasn’t enough? Dinner conversation topics: Who made a better meal, me or my wife? HOME Room in your house: I have a room with wall-to-wall DVDs which my wife thinks is wanky hence why she refers to it as ‘‘The Masturbatorium’’. Place to hide: See previous. Art piece: We have these mesmerisingly detailed red and yellow dot paintings from indigenous artist Emily Kngwarreye. Item you can’t live without: Let’s be honest, iPhone. Luxury product: Oversized ice cream maker. My favourite thing is to make limoncello ice cream with creme fraiche and then serve it in hollowed out lemons. FOOD Meal of all time: Rich, salty scampi pasta in a restaurant built into rocks in the seaside town of Vernasa, Italy. Dish to cook: Honey and pistachio glazed lamb on a mint, pea and fetta salad and limoncello ice cream. Family recipe: Char kway teow, a Malay dish with fried rice noodles. Ingredient: Chilli. Mum and I used to have chilli eating competitions. Guilty pleasure: Olives. I once finished a tub of them in kindy and had to be rushed to hospital. Bar: Fredas in Redfern, Sydney. They have great food and you can actually hear people talk. Restaurant: Oscillate Wildly in Newtown, Sydney (pictured). I’m a sucker for all that over-the-top beetroot soil and lychee foam. Cafe: Sideways Cafe in Dulwich Hill, Sydney, has the best alcohol-soaking breakfasts I’ve seen. STYLE Fashion designer: Jack London – even if none of it fits me. His suits look great but I have never been able to pull any of it off. Piece of clothing: Black jeans, black T-shirt. It’s what I feel comfortable in. Shop: Top 3 in Moore Park. Pointlessly awesome stuff for the house. Artist: Filmmaker David Fincher.
