Film critic, TV pre­sen­ter, ra­dio host, author and all-round me­dia mis­chief maker Marc Fen­nell has joined SBS2’s news and cur­rent af­fairs pro­gram, The Feed, as the prin­ci­pal host. TV Guide caught up with him to find out about his favourite things. EN­TER­TAIN­MENT Movie: I watch Don­nie Darko an­nu­ally be­cause ev­ery time I see it I think it means some­thing else. Book: The Hitch­hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. When I die I’d like my head­stone to read ‘‘Dead for Tax Pur­poses Only’’. TV show: Ar­rested De­vel­op­ment, with Cop Rock as a close sec­ond. Band or singer: French elec­tronic out­fit M83 is the band I play when­ever I have the apart­ment to my­self and neigh­bours to an­noy. Al­bum: Mi­ike Snow by Mi­ike Snow. It’s as catchy as the ad­di­tional let­ter ‘‘i’’ is su­per­flu­ous. Karaoke song: Won­der­wall by Oasis. Gadget: Jaw­bone Up, a pe­dome­ter on my wrist that syncs with an iPhone to tell me how much run­ning around I do in a day and just how lit­tle sleep I’m re­ceiv­ing. LIFE­STYLE Hol­i­day spot: In Aus­tralia, By­ron Bay. Over­seas, Cinque Terra in Italy. Thing to do on the week­end: Work through all the TV I missed be­cause I’m on air. Place to go to re­lax: Weird, but I find the gym in­cred­i­bly re­lax­ing. Hobby: My wife Madeleine and I do a thing called ‘‘Stunt Cook­ing’’ where I make mains, she makes dessert and then we let Face­book de­cide who made the bet­ter look­ing meals. Sport to fol­low or play: What? Stunt Cook­ing wasn’t enough? Din­ner con­ver­sa­tion top­ics: Who made a bet­ter meal, me or my wife? HOME Room in your house: I have a room with wall-to-wall DVDs which my wife thinks is wanky hence why she refers to it as ‘‘The Mas­tur­ba­to­rium’’. Place to hide: See pre­vi­ous. Art piece: We have th­ese mes­meris­ingly de­tailed red and yel­low dot paint­ings from in­dige­nous artist Emily Kng­war­r­eye. Item you can’t live with­out: Let’s be hon­est, iPhone. Lux­ury prod­uct: Over­sized ice cream maker. My favourite thing is to make li­mon­cello ice cream with creme fraiche and then serve it in hol­lowed out lemons. FOOD Meal of all time: Rich, salty scampi pasta in a restau­rant built into rocks in the sea­side town of Ver­nasa, Italy. Dish to cook: Honey and pis­ta­chio glazed lamb on a mint, pea and fetta salad and li­mon­cello ice cream. Fam­ily recipe: Char kway teow, a Malay dish with fried rice noo­dles. In­gre­di­ent: Chilli. Mum and I used to have chilli eat­ing com­pe­ti­tions. Guilty plea­sure: Olives. I once fin­ished a tub of them in kindy and had to be rushed to hos­pi­tal. Bar: Fredas in Red­fern, Syd­ney. They have great food and you can ac­tu­ally hear peo­ple talk. Restau­rant: Os­cil­late Wildly in New­town, Syd­ney (pic­tured). I’m a sucker for all that over-the-top beet­root soil and ly­chee foam. Cafe: Side­ways Cafe in Dul­wich Hill, Syd­ney, has the best al­co­hol-soak­ing breakfasts I’ve seen. STYLE Fash­ion de­signer: Jack Lon­don – even if none of it fits me. His suits look great but I have never been able to pull any of it off. Piece of cloth­ing: Black jeans, black T-shirt. It’s what I feel com­fort­able in. Shop: Top 3 in Moore Park. Point­lessly awe­some stuff for the house. Artist: Film­maker David Fincher.
