That shrinking feeling
LA SHRINKS Wednesday, 9.30pm, Arena
A SHOW like this could only come from America.
In Australia, sharing your feelings only happens when you’ve had too many beers at the pub and think everyone is your best mate. But on LA Shrinks, the patients are not only content opening up to a therapist, they’re also happy to share their deepest, most emotional issues with the entire world.
While it may be an awkward and uncomfortable prospect for those Down Under, it does make for brilliant television.
This week Dr Gregory Cason is trying to help a couple with marital issues but the wife insists on bringing their pets to therapy; Dr Eris Huemer is trying to help a Playboy model deal with her insecurities, and Dr Venus Nicolino is working with a narcissist in his quest to find love. The latter is the most amusing as Dr Nicolino is determined to show her patient how he comes across to the rest of the world, even if it means insulting him.
Viewers also get an insight into the shrinks’ lives and issues. Dr Huemer heads to the fertility clinic to learn about her chances of falling pregnant, Dr Nicolino meets with a plastic surgeon about removing her breast implants, and Dr Cason plans his wedding.
