ACROSS THE WIDE MISSOURI (1951) GEM, 2PM, PG, WESTERN

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

In the time when leading men were rugged and political correctness was scarce came this Clark Gable offering. Directed by western official William A. Wellman ( BuffaloBill, The Call of the Wild), it tells the story of beaver trapper Flint Mitchell (Gable) in 1800s Montana. Wanting to extend his hunting boundaries, he marries the daughter (María Elena Marqués) of a native American chief to access the land. Thinking his marriage is purely business, he slowly falls for her charms. A standard Gable fare, however, because of the 25-year age difference between leads the romance seems a little unbelievable. ★★★
