MY YEAR WITHOUT SEX (2009) SBS ONE, 9.30PM, M, DRAMA

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

What may sound like a horror film to most people is actually the endearing story of a family rallying together in the face of adversity. Melbourne director Sarah Watt uses her trademark dark humour that made LookBothWays (2005) such a standout. The title refers to 12 months in the life of suburban mum Natalie (Sacha Horler, above), during which she survives a near-fatal brain aneurism and must avoid stress, including sex with her husband Ross (Matt Day), to prevent a re-occurrence. Natalie’s recovery is also blighted by caring for their two children, mortgages, unemployment and dead pets. Relatable. ★★★ to haul Jerry along on his latest globe-trotting mission to hunt down an arms dealer (David Suchet). Nothing heartstopping, just good, agreeably old-fashioned fun. ★★★
