The BBC’s first Muslim sitcom attracted plenty of outrage when it aired in the UK. Viewers were upset by what they saw as a lack of respect for religion and family. They should also have complained that it wasn’t that funny. Billed as a multicultural warm, satirical comedy, it is a one-joke show in which dad and self-appointed community leader Mr Khan (Adil Ray) is ridiculed behind his back by his wife and children, friends and the manager at the local mosque (Kris Marshall.) The most clever piece of writing in the series is the title. ★✩ Extras: None
