Comedy will rev engine

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS -

Thursday, 8.30pm, ABC1

ROBYN Butler and Wayne Hope (the duo behind the hilarious

The Librarians) swap bookshelves for the racetrack in their latest project about a highly strung doctor and mum, Bess, who finds out she is adopted.

Suddenly her reflux, dislike for French films and her son’s carrotcoloured hair are all explained.

Her real parents are battlers who live in the outer suburbs and head up a drag racing team.

The laughs come from Bess’s efforts to negotiate common ground between her birth and adoptive families. Glenn Robbins is no Kel Knight but he is again both daggy and endearing, with a brilliant deadpan delivery as Bess’s dad while Michala Banas ( Winners

& Losers) is perfectly cast as the tough single mum.

It takes some time in the first episode to set up the story but it is worth sticking with.
