MEAN MACHINE (2001) ONE, 8.30PM, M, DRAMA

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

On the back of Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, former English football thug Vinnie Jones carved himself out a new career by bringing his hard-man persona to the big screen. Mean Machine marks Jones’s rise to leading-man status in this British remake of classic American prison film The Longest Yard. He’s Danny Meehan, a disgraced former England soccer player who is sent down for a three-year stretch when a drink-driving incident ends with police assault. Once behind bars, the prison governor coerces Danny to take part in a game between the guards and the inmates. Entertaining, tonguein-cheek caper aided by Jones’s undoubted charisma. ★★★
