DECEPTION (2008) ONE, 9.30PM, MA15+, CRIME

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Hollywood hero Hugh Jackman takes a break from saving his leading ladies from singlehood or evil masterminds to star in this slick erotic thriller that plays like TheGame meets EyesWideShut. Mildmannered accountant Ewan McGregor is invited to join an exclusive sex club by a sleazy lawyer (Jackman). As you would imagine, everything’s awesome – until he finds himself the chief suspect in a multimillion-dollar heist and in the disappearance of a mysterious club member (Michelle Williams). A lean, well-crafted thriller courtesy of first-time Swiss director Marcel Langenegger. ★★★ Director Oliver Stone’s epic saga of a Miami NFL football team is little more than a series of rapid-fire game sequences and heated confrontations where Al Pacino and Cameron Diaz (above) show off their shouting skills. Some may find it all too much, but Stone’s intention is to put the viewer on the field with the players, and he achieves this with ease. With a fine supporting cast (including James Woods, Jamie Foxx, and Dennis Quaid) and some gruelling game sequences, this is a cut above your usual sports melodrama. ★★★★
