She rose to fame on shows such as Heart­break High and Res­cue Spe­cial Ops, now Kather­ine Hicks is en­joy­ing the spot­light again as the new­est cast mem­ber of Seven’s drama Win­ners & Losers. TV Guide sat down with her to find out about her favourite things.

EN­TER­TAIN­MENT

Movie: That is al­ways chang­ing. When I was 10 it was Grease, now I love No Coun­try For Old Men. Book: I’d have to say The God Of Small Things by Arund­hati Roy. It is so beau­ti­fully told. TV show: Cur­rently work­ing my way through Went­worth and I am hooked. Band or singer: I am loving Gil­lian Welch, her voice is warm and strong. Al­bum: Hon­estly, I’ve be­come more of a playlist kind of girl. But I can lis­ten to The National al­bum High Vi­o­let over and over. Karaoke song: I al­ways give Jo­lene a bit of a nudge with vary­ing re­sults. Gadget: My lap­top. I take it every­where when I travel.

LIFE­STYLE

Hol­i­day spot: I love to travel and def­i­nitely love warm weather. My last trip was to Thai­land, to the An­daman Sea, so beau­ti­ful and re­lax­ing.

Thing to do on the week­end: The week­end when we aren’t shoot­ing is made for sleep­ing in and learn­ing lines and I al­ways try to get out­doors to find a new hike or walk.

Place to go to re­lax: I of­ten head home to the By­ron area for some R and R when I can get away.

Hobby: I love mak­ing, build­ing and craft­ing so I’m start­ing with fram­ing. Sport to fol­low or play: I like watch­ing AFL, I also like play­ing it. Din­ner con­ver­sa­tion top­ics: I like get­ting past the small talk and chat­ting about what peo­ple are re­ally pas­sion­ate about or in­ter­ested in.

HOME

Room in your house: My favourite room is my bed­room, I put in a lot of ef­fort to make it pleas­ing to my eye so I can work, read and re­lax there. Place to hide from ev­ery­one: I like hav­ing long bub­ble baths sur­rounded by can­dles for a hide­away. Art piece: Gus­tave Courbet’s The Wheat Sifters. He was an icon­o­clast of his day. Item you can’t live with­out: I love my tea! I use loose leaf tea and a tea pot. Lux­ury prod­uct: The one area I splurge on is skin care and my favourite fra­grances.

FOOD

Meal of all time: I love a roast chicken with veg­eta­bles and home­made gravy. It re­minds me of fam­ily gath­er­ings .

Dish to cook: I love cook­ing for other peo­ple, but when it comes to my­self I keep it quick and sim­ple, mak­ing big mixed sal­ads usu­ally.

Fam­ily recipe: I’ve tried to repli­cate my mum’s tri­fle but never man­aged to. In­gre­di­ent: I love cin­na­mon on fresh fruit, yo­ghurt or in a fruit smoothie. Guilty plea­sure: My friend makes the most beau­ti­ful choco­late tart. I’ve asked him to stop bring­ing it over be­cause it’s so hard to re­sist. Bar: She­been in Melbourne. It’s a not­for-profit bar and the earn­ings go to char­ity. It has a great at­mos­phere. Restau­rant: I love Sake in South Bank, Melbourne. Great ser­vice and amaz­ing Ja­panese food. Cafe´: Pope Joan on Ni­chol­son St in Melbourne. Great ser­vice and decor and a de­li­cious menu.

STYLE

Style icon: I love Cate Blanchett’s style. She is so nat­u­rally beau­ti­ful and al­ways looks so­phis­ti­cated. Fash­ion de­signer: Elie Saab. His pieces are stun­ning, I love the at­ten­tion to em­broi­dery and bead­work. I have only ever dreamt of wear­ing one. Piece of cloth­ing: My favourite piece of cloth­ing so far was the Mar­i­ana Hard­wick dress I wore to the Lo­gies this year. Shop: I of­ten wan­der into Scan­lan & Theodore, such beau­ti­ful, in­tel­li­gently-de­signed mod­ern pieces. Pure el­e­gance I love it in there. Artist: I am cur­rently read­ing Frida Kahlo’s bi­og­ra­phy. I ad­mire her style and her art and her life so much.
