WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005) SEVEN, 8.30PM, M, SCI-FI

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Using the classic H.G. Wells novel as a launch pad, and retooling it for 21st-century America, Steven Spielberg replaces the benevolent nature of his previous alienthemed works to present a gloomy tale of intergalactic nasties that declare war on our planet. Caught in the crossfire is Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise), a working-class New Jersey dad thrust into a quest for survival. Filled with edgeof-the-seat action, cuttingedge effects (naturally) and a fine supporting cast (Miranda Otto, Dakota Fanning and Tim Robbins), Spielberg trains his death ray on lesser alieninvasion flicks and blows them away. ★★★★

Under attack: Dakota Fanning and Tom Cruise in WarOfTheWorlds.
