The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Don’t be fooled, this isn’t a straightforward Drew Barrymore-driven romantic comedy about a sweet young burger-flipper who falls pregnant and goes looking for a suitable father with whom to raise her child. Instead, it’s a mad and quite black comedy from the pen of sometime X-Files writer Vince Gilligan that tries to out-run the Coen brothers in the kooky stakes but just ends up falling flat on its face. The child is actually fathered by a middle-aged man who was frightened to death by his psychotic sons (Luke Wilson and Jake Busey), who are doing their utmost to turn Barrymore’s life into a living hell. A bizarre but ultimately unsatisfying tale. ★★★
