The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Anyone who has watched the Smurfs’ 1980s cartoon series will know exactly what to expect from this half-animated 3D family film. The sugary plot revolves around the boisterous blue gang being forced to flee from evil wizard Gargamel (played by TheSimpsons’ Hank Azaria, who provides most of the humour) and, after being sucked through a wormhole, they find themselves in good ol’ New York. Celebrities popping by to hang out with the tiny little fellas in the grown-up world are How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris and aptly cartoonesque pop starlet Katy Perry. While the ‘‘smurfology’’ is overbearing and gimmicky, it’s perfect silliness for kids. ★★★
