THE WILD (2006) 7MATE, 7PM, G, ANIMATION

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Although in the big shadow of Dreamworks’ Madagascar (2005), Disney’s similar tale offers just enough innovation to justify its existence. Kiefer Sutherland voices Sampson, a lion from New York’s Central Park Zoo, who sets sail for Africa after his young son is accidentally shipped there. A bunch of animal pals follow Sampson on his quest, including a love-struck squirrel (Jim Belushi), a stand-offish giraffe (Janeane Garofalo), a slow-witted snake (Richard Kind) and a boastful koala (Eddie Izzard). More familyfriendly than its pop culture-obsessed forerunner, it’s geared towards warming the heart and reinforcing cliched (but still worthy) lessons about the unshakeable bonds of family. ★★★
