THE WITCHES (1990) GO!, 6.30PM, PG, FANTASY

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - TV Guide - - HIGHLIGHTS -

Much like the memorable Roald Dahl novel, Nicolas Roeg’s ( Walkabout, Don’t LookNow) adaptation is one dark – but gleeful – trip into childhood imagination. For those unfamiliar with the story, young innocent Luke (Jasen Fisher, Parenthood) stumbles upon a coven whose intentions for children are anything but friendly. Angelica Huston revels in her role as the leader of the weird sisters, while the late Mai Zetterling, Jane Horrocks and Brenda Blethyn are just a few of the familiar faces to join the fun. Not one for the little kids, this should still satisfy the Harry Potter brigade for the time being. ★★★ in tow, encountering danger and magic on their way in the mystical land of Oz. Revived and remastered, this immortal fantasy tale of self-discovery is one of the most treasurable film experiences imaginable. Its message of hope has rarely been surpassed. ★★★★★
