DRAMA OLIVE KITTERIDGE

7. 3 0PM, S HOWCASE

Debut of the four-part HBO mini-series that isn’t flashy or groundbreaking and doesn’t feature dragons battling for thrones. But it is a terrificallyacted, heartfelt meditation on small-town life. Frances McDormand stars as the depression-prone teacher who gives the show its name alongside Richard Jenkins (above with McDormand) as her devoted pharmacist husband. Also drifting in and out are Bill Murray and Rosmarie DeWitt.

DRAMA

SCANDAL 1 1 PM, S E VEN Last episode ended with a shooting cliff-hanger. Tonight wastes no time in revealing who survived. Meanwhile, Olivia confronts the killer. His response seems to shatter her belief in loyalty, human decency, the stars and stripes et cetera – how she had any such illusions left after three backstabbing-filled seasons remains a mystery.

SCI-FI

THE LIBRARIANS 8. 3 0PM, UNIVERSAL Express from the US. Noah Wyle (right) is a librarian who has assembled a team to battle monsters-of-the-week with wisecracking and wise thinking, Buffy- style. One episode it was dragons, in another they saved Santa. This week, it’s a teachable moment when a bunch of pesky students start dabbling in witchcraft. Librarians to the rescue!
