DRAMA THE DOCTOR BLAKE MYSTERIES

8. 3 0PM, ABC

A brash young rower celebrates winning a race on Lake Wendouree by taking a dip in the water. Turns out he’s a better rower than he is a swimmer. So it is that Doctor Blake is called into action for another year of cracking murder mysteries. Craig McLachlan (looking more distinguished with every series) is joined by an impressive cast including Alyson Whyte (above, with McLachlan).

COMEDY

STAND-UP SUPERSTARS: BILL MAHER – LIVE FROM DC 7. 3 0PM, T HE C OMEDY C HANNEL Last year, this was HBO’s most-watched comedy special since Robin Williams in 2009. Australia may not be so riveted: Maher’s weekly dissection of US politics RealTime doesn’t air here anymore and this special is chock full of Republicans vs Obama bits. Still, his bit about being sued by Donald Trump is funny in any language.
