IVAN Mi­lat is serv­ing seven con­sec­u­tive life sen­tences plus 18 years with­out pa­role in Goul­burn’s Su­per­max for the bru­tal mur­der of seven back­pack­ers and the at­tempted ab­duc­tion of an­other.

Their bod­ies were found in Be­lan­glo State For­est in be­tween 1992 and 1993, stabbed and shot mul­ti­ple times, and Mi­lat was ar­rested in 1994. It is be­lieved there are more vic­tims.

NSW Po­lice have agreed to look into re­cent rev­e­la­tions about the shoot­ing of taxi driver Neville Knight in Syd­ney’s west af­ter new ev­i­dence aired by Sun­day Night strongly sug­gested it was com­mit­ted by Mi­lat. Fu­elled by con­tin­ued public in­ter­est in the Mi­lat story, the rev­e­la­tions de­liv­ered the cur­rent af­fairs show a rare rat­ings win over ri­val 60 Min­utes.
