6.30PM, 9GO! A fun animated comedy about a pudgy panda’s journey from bumbling noodle restaurant waiter to martial-arts master. Gets a little too boisterous for its own good at times, but the winning voice cast (led by Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie) know exactly when to rein everything in. Knockout visuals for a non-Pixar ’toon. There is a level of attention to historical detail that you would not normally expect to see in the computer-animation genre. 9PM, 9GO! A near-lethal shot of testosterone administered through the eyes, it’s a horrible action picture that is horribly entertaining. Sylvester Stallone (66) and his posse of past-their-prime pulverisers – led by Chuck Norris (72), Bruce Willis (57), Dolph Lundgren (54) and Jean-Claude Van Damme (51) – have a grand old time revisiting their former glories.

8.30PM, 9GO! The heart of this film (Tom Hanks hopelessly stranded on a remote deserted island) is magnificent. Ignore the sappy beginning and ending, and focus instead on some great acting from Hanks and the atmospheric direction of Robert Zemeckis ( Back to the Future, Forrest Gump). A one-man series of Survivor where no one gets voted off – that’s a recommendation, not a threat. Co-stars Helen Hunt.

9.40PM, GEM In mounting a modern remake of the classic 1957 western, writer-director James Mangold has applied what is best described as a turbocharge to proceedings. Though the film packs an action wallop, the leading duo of Russell Crowe (as a badass outlaw) and Christian Bale (the last honest man in the 1870s) take everything to a higher level. Rough and tough, but devoid of bluff.
