JOSHUA Jackson is having relationship troubles. The former Dawson’sCreek star’s character on TheAffair, Cole Lockhart, is trying to move on with his life after former wife Alison’s (Ruth Wilson) affair with Noah Solloway (Dominic West). TheAffair is based on the notion that there is no set right or wrong when it comes to relationship breakups.

The makers of the program, along with the cast, pride themselves on showing the ramifications of Alison and Noah’s affair from multiple viewpoints.

“We have this idea on the show that everybody is part angel and part devil – there is no (absolute) truth there,” executive producer Sarah Treem says.

Last year’s second season spent time digging deeper into Cole’s world and Noah’s wife Helen (Maura Tierney).

Cole was trying to move on with new wife Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno) but memories of Alison cut deep.

“One of the joys of television is that you never have to, or want to, figure out the character completely. It is going to grow over time,” Jackson says.

The third season of The Affair jumps forward three years. Noah has done prison time after his shock admission to killing Cole’s brother Scotty (Colin Donnell). Alison has been raising daughter Joanie alongside Cole and Luisa.

“All these characters are reeling from the consequences of the huge trauma that they’ve put each other through,” Wilson says.
