Two killed in Miles fire
TWO people tragically killed in a house fire in Miles yesterday were preparing a surprise 80th birthday for a family member.
David Thrupp and Karen Shaw were found inside their Lynagh St home after the fire had broken out at about 4.30am. Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Ray Brown said both were respected members of the community.
“It’s a sad day for Miles,” Cr Brown said. Their families “had a long association with the community and they will be dearly missed”, he said.
“It’s such a tragedy as they were actually planning to surprise a family member tomorrow for their 80th birthday,” Cr Brown said.
Friends of both families have taken to social media to pay their respects.
“Thinking of the Mr and Mrs Shaw at this time,” one woman wrote. “David was a great person.”
A crime scene has been established as investigations continue into the cause of the blaze but initial investigations suggest it was not deliberately lit.
One neighbour who wished to remain anonymous said the flames destroyed the front of the house in a matter of minutes.
