THESE little chefs know how to get things done.

The Woorabinda State School pupils don their chef hats and uniforms once a week to learn how to cook, making anything from cupcakes to salads and lunches.

Teacher Lisa Wogand said the school had introduced “hook activities” to encourage the students to come to school.

“It’s just about building up the excitement the kids have to come to school,” she said. “It’s really hands-on and fun.”

The cooking classes also encourage the kids to improve their numeracy and literacy skills, measuring ingredients and reading recipes.

The school’s attendance rates have improved, to around 88 per cent from 60 per cent several years ago.
