Motorists enjoy rare toll fee win

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - - NEWS -

MOTORISTS being pursued for unpaid tolls will be spared an estimated $36 million a year in fees as a simple change halves the number of administration charges.

The Palaszczuk Government plans to scrap a system that issues individual demand notices – each with a $23.89 administration fee – for every toll motorists fail to pay.

Toll dodgers with multiple unpaid fees can quickly rack up almost $100 just in admin fees. The change means multiple unpaid toll fees would be listed on one notice.

Motorist lobby group RACQ said Transport Department officials had advised that the change would halve the number of demand notices issued and save motorists $36 million a year in toll fees.

The Tolling Customer Ombudsman received 115 complaints in February alone.
