Ministry call for regions

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - - NEWS -

QUEENSLAND needs a minister for regional development, according to a consortium representing some of the state’s most important industries.

Five peak bodies – Agforce, Qld Tourism Industry Council, Property Council, Resources Council and Timber Queensland – have partnered to launch a state election manifesto.

The consortium said an incoming government should establish a dedicated regional development ministry to champion the interests of areas outside southeast Queensland and ensure regional factors were “explicitly considered’’ by Cabinet.

As well as a ministry, they want a government-industry roundtable set up to develop a vision for future development and create jobs. Tax stability and reductions in energy costs are both on the agenda.
