Only the LNP has the credentials to fix state’s budget woes
A CORE value of the LNP is the desire to responsibly manage the finances of Queensland.
That means providing for the needs of today and planning and building the infrastructure of tomorrow … without leaving future generations unfairly burdened.
This is a clear contrast with Labor, which spends for today with no thought or care for who has to pay tomorrow.
We are the better economic managers because, unlike Labor, we understand that all of the Government’s money comes from taxpayers and needs to be treated with respect.
We know that government can’t provide the services and infrastructure Queensland needs without a strong economy.
That’s why the LNP has a comprehensive economic plan to create 500,000 jobs over the next 10 years.
We will support businesses to employ more Queenslanders by cutting payroll tax – Labor’s tax on jobs. This change alone will immediately help more than 14,000 businesses create more jobs and give existing employees more work.
We won’t backflip like Annastacia Palaszczuk on megaprojects such as the Carmichael mine and the Gold Coast’s ASF Integrated Resort Development – putting at risk more than 10,000 mine-related jobs and totally pulling the plug on 13,000 jobs with the ASF termination.
We will restore investor confidence by ending uncertainty – a government I lead will do what we say we will do.
An economy can’t grow while weighed down by costs, and electricity is one of the biggest costs.
The LNP will deliver cheaper electricity, saving a typical family $780 over the next three years and saving businesses, farmers and industry thousands of dollars over the next term of government.
Our real reforms will increase supply, boost competition, lower costs and improve choice to deliver cheaper power bills.
And it’s because we are better financial managers that the LNP will also be able to deliver other significant cost-of-living relief – including freezing family car registration for three years, saving up to $200.
We will stabilise debt, which under Labor is predicted to reach a record $81 billion.
We don’t want to leave our kids and grandkids to pay off our debt because government couldn’t manage the finances.
To create the jobs of the future, we will build the infrastructure Queensland needs.
We will deliver a $1.3 billion water infrastructure and dams program to improve water security and make regional economies stronger. If you have water, you have jobs … now and into the future.
We will also bust the congestion that stops people spending more time with their families and costs the economy billions of dollars in lost productivity. We will get people out of traffic by: • Building a second M1; • Duplicating the Sunshine Coast rail line; • Supporting the Brisbane Metro; • Improving the M1 off-ramps.
And we will build the infrastructure that our regions need through our supercharged $500 million Royalties for Regions program.
We will support local businesses with our Buy Local policy: real Queensland businesses with a head office in the state and that employ locals will be able to access our Price Match Guarantee on government projects and contracts.
We are unashamedly backing Queensland businesses because it means more jobs for Queenslanders.
People can trust the LNP to deliver because in government, we funded 11 new schools and delivered a $10 billion, 10-year Bruce Highway action plan. We funded the Toowoomba second range crossing and Gateway North upgrade, created jobs, and reduced debt by $10 billion. The priorities of the LNP government that I will lead are clear. We will create jobs, take action on the cost of living, better support Queensland families, provide safe and liveable communities and build the roads, bridges and dams we need.
We have the desire and experience to better manage the finances, and the plan to build a better Queensland. Tim Nicholls is Leader of the Liberal National Party
