TRAGEDY TO TREASURE
THE driving force behind the World’s Biggest Garage Sale says the past few weeks have been the most challenging of her life.
Yasmin Grigaliunas, 41, began running garage sales to raise funds for breast cancer after her mother, Jenny Mills, her maternal grandmother, Joan Bell, and her grandmother’s four sisters were all diagnosed with breast cancer.
Last month, Ms Grigaliunas lost her mother to breast cancer, and just two days later her husband, Leigh, lost his father to liver cancer. “It has definitely been the most challenging time ever,” she said.
The mother-of-two said she never considered cancelling next Saturday’s World’s Biggest Garage Sale, which is set to raise more than a quarter of a million dollars for charity.
“My mum would never have wanted me to cancel because of her passing,” she said.
The World’s Biggest Garage Sale will be held in Brisbane’s south at Unit 6, Arcadia Industrial Estate, 836 Boundary Road, Coopers Plains.
