STRETCHING CAN BE A LIFE-SAVER
Are you having trouble reaching for your shoelaces? Or getting a mug from the top shelf? It could be time to stretch, US experts say.
“People don’t always realise how important stretching is to avoiding injury and disability,” says Elissa Huber-Anderson, a physiotherapist from Massachusetts General Hospital.
Our muscles become stiffer as we age, and unless we stretch them out, our mobility declines and our risk of strains, joint pain and falling increases. A mix of dynamic and static stretches that focus on the legs, hip flexors and pelvis, lower back, neck and shoulders is ideal and should be done at least three times a week.
