You’ll get more health ben­e­fits from your cup of tea if you heat it in the mi­crowave rather than us­ing the ket­tle, ac­cord­ing to Aus­tralian re­search. UK TV show Broad­church cre­ated a storm in a teacup ( ahem!) af­ter the lead ac­tor mi­crowaved his cuppa, lead­ing to out­cry on­line. He must have read the 2012 study from The Univer­sity of New­cas­tle! It re­vealed that mi­crowav­ing a cup of hot wa­ter with a black or green teabag on half power for 30 sec­onds can ac­ti­vate 80 per cent of its caf­feine, thea­nine and polyphe­nols – giv­ing you the equiv­a­lent of three cups. The lead re­searcher also says it tastes bet­ter... You de­cide!
