About 50 athletes across 11 disciplines will represent Australia in Korea. Our presence at the Winter Games goes back to 1936, when 22-year-old Ken Kennedy turned up to a German ski town to take on the world’s best speed skaters. We had to wait until 1994 to win our first medal and it wasn’t until 2002 that we scored a gold thanks to Steven Bradbury. No Australian has competed in more Winter Games than speed skater Colin Coates, who packed his blades for half a dozen Olympics from Grenoble in 1968 to Calgary in 1988.
