KNOW YOUR BUZZWORDS

Decipher the natural-beauty jargon, so you know exactly what you’re buying

ORGANIC

Grown without using synthetic pesticides or herbicides, plus cruelty free and highly certifiable.

NATURAL

Contains only natural ingredients – plants, flowers, minerals – however, Australian regulations around the use of this word are still a bit murky, so it’s best to read the ingredient list, too.

VEGAN

Contains no animal ingredients or by-products, even in the manufacturing process, and is also cruelty free.

BIODYNAMIC

Developed by the creator of skincare brand Weleda, this uses farming practices that are stricter than organic and focus on cultivating a holistic and balanced ecosystem.

CONTAINS WILD HARVEST

Uses plants that are grown in the wild, then harvested. They have minimal interference but can be hard to certify.
