A study by UK and Aussie researchers compared the weight-loss results of participants who were given Functional Imagery Training ( FIT), which involves multisensory visualisation techniques, to those given ‘talk therapy’ for motivation. Neither group received additional diet or fitness advice. After six months, the FIT group lost an average of 4.1kg, compared to just 0.74kg of the other group. While most people are aware you need to eat less and exercise more to lose weight, according to lead researcher Dr Linda Solbrig, “people simply aren’t motivated enough”. By encouraging you to use all your senses to imagine what it would feel like to lose weight and what it would enable you to do, FIT strengthens your resolve and inspires you to make healthier choices.
