N ew re­search has found your mind is an im­por­tant mus­cle when it comes to weight loss. In fact, it can in­crease your re­sults by as much as 500 per cent. A study by UK and Aussie re­searchers com­pared the weight-loss re­sults of par­tic­i­pants who were given Func­tional Im­agery Train­ing ( FIT), which in­volves mul­ti­sen­sory vi­su­al­i­sa­tion tech­niques, to those given ‘talk ther­apy’ for mo­ti­va­tion. Nei­ther group re­ceived ad­di­tional diet or fit­ness ad­vice. After six months, the FIT group lost an av­er­age of 4.1kg, com­pared to just 0.74kg of the other group. While most peo­ple are aware you need to eat less and ex­er­cise more to lose weight, ac­cord­ing to lead re­searcher Dr Linda Sol­brig, “peo­ple sim­ply aren’t mo­ti­vated enough”.
