Luxury river cruise operator Uniworld’s ambitious plan to tap into the 21- to 45-year-old market with its U by Uniworld brand is going full steam ahead. Sailings start in April, offering nine European itineraries on the Seine, Rhine, Main and Danube rivers aboard two ships carrying a maximum of 120 passengers.

The black ships will be christened The A and The B in their bid to carve a cool new niche in a passenger market dominated by Baby Boomers and retirees. Uniworld says it is “reinventing” travel with the brand, visiting festivals along the way, staying late in ports for clubbing, and including active adventures such as bike excursions, kayak trips, bridge jumping, rock climbing and whitewater rafting.

On-board, life will include mixology as well as cooking classes, painting classes, sipping wine on the sundeck, yoga and “silent disco” where everyone is dancing with headphones on but can take them off to talk to their friends.
