The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - Escape - - BEST FOR 2018 -

The question the Escape team asks each week when we look at our options for the cover image is, “Would I want to be there?” Experience tells us that our audience, which numbers into the millions, is wowed by majestic natural wonders. Forests, flowers, snow-covered mountains, dramatic rock formations and vast expanses of desert are guaranteed to take away the collective breath of our readers on a Sunday morning.

Dynamic shots of big city lights and action and iconic man-made monuments also rate well as people dream of their next trip to New York, London, Paris, Barcelona or any other cultural capital.

Then, there are the photographs that elicit oohs and aahs from just about everyone: the water shots. Islands, beaches, pools, seas, waterfalls, fjords, ocean liners, river ships, surfboards and snorkelling – if there’s a drop of H20 in there, we’re onto a winner.

The addition of a banana lounge or, in the case of today’s snap, an oversized day bed over aqua so blue and beguiling it doesn’t seem real (it is – it’s in the Maldives, at Club Med to be precise) takes it to another level.

On that high note, welcome to our Best for 2018 edition. Thanks to the research from our stellar team of travel writers, it’s full to the brim of places you’ll definitely want to visit in the coming year.
