WHAT TO SEE IN WA’S SOUTH

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - Escape - - DESTINATION | WESTERN AUSTRALIA -

When it comes to what to do when visiting the region, Tim Winton’s list is long but offered with the kind of precision of someone who’s held the region dear in their heart for as long as they can remember.

1.

Go for a walk in the karri and tingle forests.

2.

Try hiking a short leg of the Bibbulmun Track from Walpole to Denmark.

3.

Look up Gary Muir and take a proper guided tour of Nornalup Inlet with WOW Wilderness. walpole.com.au

4.

Book a houseboat out of Walpole.

5.

Check out some of the cool spa retreats in and around Denmark.

6.

Albany has the incredible stretch of cliffs and beaches that include the Natural Bridge, the Blowholes, the Gap and Frenchman Bay.

7.

The wine, on the whole, is fabulous, from Albany’s Bunn shiraz, to Castelli’s lovely estate pinot noir to my personal obsession, the handmade wines of Montefalco in the Porongurup area.

8.

Between Walpole and Cheynes Beach, there are some of the best beaches in the world.
